JW: Is there a motion to go back into regular ses? ?: _ motion _ _ - MMW: 2nd. JW: Any discussion? All in favor, say (ayes - none heard opposed) Motion carried. I have 2 Speaker Request Cards, 3. & I hope I'm gettin' these in order, but I couldn't be wrong, so uh (on paper?) _ - Janet Renner, Reener, _ u come up to the mic & uh state your name & where u live & (pause) -
MsR: My name is Janet Renner. Um I live in Wildwood, MO. My org is Missourians Against Illegal Immigration, um & I would like to state for the record that I AM for legal immigration. I know I only have 2 mins so I'm gonna go fast. Um 1st I'd like to express my support for the mayor & his ald for the ord which they passed recently. I saw the one tonight & that goes for that one too. I believe it was the right thing to do & the lawful thing to do since our fed gov't is not enforcing our immigration laws. U are not alone in your attempt to maintain the rule of law in your city for more than 30 states are either working on or have passed laws limiting the benefits & the access of illegal aliens to American rights & benefits.
Um in one of the articles about um the housing, um they mentioned the Fair Housing Act & uh they uh relate it to housing discrimination. Um from a grass roots standpoint of mine, um I feel that um this is an American law & which pertains to Americans, whether native or, or legalized, & not to people that should not be in our country, illegal aliens. Be that as it may, I realize that u have your city to care for & the monetary & social pressures will be enormous if u chose to fight to keep your city um under the rule of law & to enforce your present ord.
Um I hope that u never, never give up because what is going to happen if u decide to give up fighting for the rule of law is that u & all of us will certainly lose in the end. 1st u - we will lose our school dist, then we will lose our city, then we will lose MO, then we will lose the U.S. of America. The unethical, the unscrupulous, the greedy, the blind-sided & the apathetic (once or ones?) crying for the end of the rule of law (are not?) (_ _someone coughs_ _) (your law?) will go down with us, shaking their heads & wondering how this all came about. On the (younger?) hands, if u choose to defend the city's right to enforce (speaker timer beeps rapidly) the law, u might still lose but u will have lost defending the rule of law & the American ideal. Good will have utimately pre- prevailed.
Our great men in the military give it the ultimate sacrifice with their lives to protect us Americans from harm & to preserve our American way of life. JW: Could u wrap that up pretty quick? I let u go over your 2 mins. MsR: Oh, ok. They are not fighting for illegal aliens who break our laws, coming into our country, feed off our American system, play us for fools & trample on our flag. Um & I deserve that we need to protect our um cities, states & home - um for them to come home to.
I just want to say real quickly that I notice in your new um ord that u do use the um same um basic pilot program which I think Gov Blunt uh mandated last wk that all uh state agencies will use & identify um the status of uh potential employers. Tku very much.
9/26/06 SBA - Sec 5 of 6
JW: Tku very much. Next is Repra _ Dwight Scharnhorst. RepS: My name is Dwight Scharnhorst. I'm State Rep of the 93rd Dist for which we're in right here. & I've been to city gov't before & spoke on the issue & uh I would like to come back & commend the city gov't for doing the right thing.
I want to remind citizens that when we take our oaths of these ofcs we hold, we swear to uphold the Constitution & the laws of the U.S. & this is all part of it. We DO wanna make sure we have well-crafted LEG that can be enforced by the proper authy's, not by our citizens. But we - I think we've reached a point to where this issue has been ignored for SO many yrs, it's become a problem that needed to be addressed & fortunately, there are people like yourselves that are standing up & doing the right thing. It's NOT about exclusion; it's about having people JOIN us in the American Dream but doing it in the proper manner. That's all anyone's asking.
No one's talking about exclusion by language. I talked to u before about that. The English Language is a language that we can ALL communicate with & we ALL know problems exist & problems are created when we DON'T communicate in a clear manner! If we're all speaking the English Language, hopefully that will be averted & a lot of those kind of problems will be uh done away with. But it IS important that we DO stand up for the laws of the U.S. But like I say, we need to make sure that, that our LEG is well-crafted & can be enforced in a proper manner by our authy's so that we give them the proper tools, but I do commend u. JW: Tku, sir. RepDS: Tku!
9/26/06 SBA - Sec 6 of 6
JW: Susan Brust. MsB: Hello, my name is Susan Brust. I am a resident of VP; have been here for about 10 yrs. & 1st of all, I just wanted to applaud um all of u for bringing this about to VP. Um I think that the new Bill is well-worded & I just wanted to let uno that I agree with everything that was said. Um I think illegal immigration is a drain on public funds; um 1st it's public education, employmt, public housing, public assistance & I could go on & on. I think the biggest thing is the public education, overcrowding of schools, um using our money to um to uh for the - our, our triple-A rated VP Schools that we send our kids & want uno better education & that's all!
JW: Tku very much. Unless the bd has any other items, I'm lookin' for a motion to adjourn. ?&?: Motion to adjourn. ?: 2nd. JW: Any further discussion? Roll call vote, please. MW: (roll call) 8 yes. JW: Mtg's adjourned. (end taping 9/26/06 SBA)
